As many of you know I just celebrated my 50th birthday. I hadn’t given it much thought over the last few months but I now see a profoundness to this milestone and have started taking stock of my success in achieving my life’s goals.
I’ve read a lot of great books over the last few years (you’ll see quotes from these each month in the From Our Library section) and many of them discuss goals, motivation, and achievement. Start Finishing by Charlie Gilkey asks the reader to think about how much of their time and attention is focused on things that truly matter to them and speculates that for most people the honest answer is ‘not enough’. Time is a rare commodity. Let’s all try to focus on those things that matter.
Next week I’ll be attending the annual MDRT Edge meeting. This is a workshopstyle meeting specifically for premiere financial advisors in Canada and the US. These meetings give me a chance to network and learn from the best minds in the industry and bring back knowledge and tools to better serve our clients. Our passion for learning sets us apart and we see it as a driving force for ensuring that those we serve are receiving the best advice possible.
Thanks for reading! Nick

ESG investing is gaining momentum but what does it mean? ESG stands for Environmental, Social, Governance. This is the new model for what used to be called Socially Responsible Investing. Environmental is what most people associate with “socially responsible” and relates to a company’s impact on the planet. Examples are carbon emissions/pollution, deforestation, green energy initiatives, and water usage. Social relates to the impact on people both inside an organization and in the community. Examples include human rights, data security, employee welfare, and community outreach. Governance focuses on how an organization is run. This can include having diversity on the board of directors, executive pay, political contributions, etc. If you want to know more let us know.
