Leaving a legacy

Planning for what happens after you pass away involves a complicated web of tools, objectives, considerations, and challenges.  Wills, Power Of Attorney’s, Trusts, Living Wills, Business succession, estate liability issues, order of withdrawing of investments for maximum tax efficiency at death, estate equalization among heirs, planning for disabled children, are just a few of the challenges when considering estate planning.  Just the seemingly simple act of naming beneficiaries on your investments and insurance is more complicated than most people realize.

Our program helps sort through the issues that your estate would face given current circumstances, considering any potential changes coming in the future which could impact planning goals/objectives, and develop a plan to ensure your wishes are carried out as you intended.  If necessary we can also help facilitate a family meeting where you can discuss your plans with your kids and other heirs.

Other planning issues could include out-of-country assets and liabilities, cottages, working as farmers/fishers, capital gains exemptions, inheritances causing a burden to heirs, heirs living outside of the country, etc.

Alternatively perhaps you are the heir and want to ensure your family has properly prepared for their estate planning.  We help our clients have the conversation with their parents.

If part of that planning and part of your wishes involves leaving something behind for charity we have programs that will ensure the greatest benefits to both your charities of choice and your estate.
